Fathoms+sketchdump

Okay, time for another update!

I've been working on Fathoms III lately, and am making some rather impressive progress (impressive, that is, because I didn't really intend to make so much of it): 12 out of 24 pages are pencilled!

Here's a piece of page two:

I feel as though I'm filling up each panel better in this chapter compared to the previous ones; yes, there are panels where there's just the head/shoulders of a characters and a speech-bubble, but most of them have more stuff going on in the background and a more solid sense of place.

Speaking of character-only panels... Here's one of my favourite panels I've ever drawn of Gale:

It just... seems to capture his whole look somehow.

Here's a few warm-ups from the last few days:

Sketchdump, round Nth

My warm-ups from the last couple of days; some sketchy, some more finished. Some in colour, some not.

First round; some Fathoms-stuff:

Superheroes: Firestarter. I need to practise drawing fire, because this looks like crap. Blackbird in uniform, being ninja.... ... and out of uniform, being her plain clothes-self.

Samurai: Whoah... Perspective and backgrounds and stuff. Far out. Masahiro being picked on by the mean kids.

 Assorted misc.:
A Nopon merchant from Xenoblade Chronicles - which is a neat game, despite the three million sidequests and silly support-meeting-esque battle dialogue. Vesto, being the badass-space-fleet-lieutenant-turned-exo-biologist-nerd that she is. The 1920ies might, not so secretly, be one of my favourite historical periods - mostly for reasons of awesome fashion and art movements. And tommy-guns. And Prohibitions and gangsters.

Sketchdump

New roundup of warm-ups and stuff. Some Fathoms, some mobsters, some superheroes and a bit of frowny samurai.

And an environment study/practise/thing to round it all off:

Warm-ups

Have taken up a new habit this past week - before I start working on the day's to-do-list (inking/lettering comics, working on bigger paintings, etc.), I do a short warm-up.

It's all sketchy and unfinished or lacking a background, or just really simple, but it's good exercise either way.

This is what I've made over the last few days:

And I also did this - because this is what I've looked like for most of the day. Except I'm not sitting in a grey void:

Charlie Chaplin and the self-portrait are done in Sai, the other in Painter IX.

More Comic Royale-stuff+sketchdump

Been a while since I updated this blog - but that's because I haven't really been doing anything sketchdump-worthy lately. It's been comics and posters and more comics and more comics.

But finally, I've got enough stuff to warrant a post. Let's start with the CR-comic stuff:

The sketch for the second page of my comic - everything is subject to change up to the moment I submit it, but this is pretty much what I've got in mind. Except, you know, properly inked, with grey tones and dialogue and stuff.

Swedish intermission: på tal om Comic Royale - är det nån som vet när deadlinen är? Vem fan ska man lämna in till? Jag har mailat info@comicroyale, men har inte fått något svar överhuvudtaget. D:

Nila Thane - actiongirl! She'd totally give Indiana Jones a run for his money.

Old envelopes are perfect for scribbling on.

Mini-sketchdump

For reasons of NaNoWriMo, there hasn't been a whole lot of art done these last few weeks. But I'm nearly finished (35352 words!), so hopefully I'll be back with a vengeance.

In the meantime, sketches:

Nila and Blackbird (who can't seem to decide which way that white part of her hair is going - it changes from picture to picture).

Blackbird again, this time to test out Paint Tool Sai's lineart tools. They're pretty neat.

Habashiri Kenji, bit-part character in the mobster-universe.

Daily sketchbook dump August 11th-19th

With bonus digital painting practise! From photo-reference I ganked off Google Images.

This is mostly Fathoms stuff, because after a long break (to focus on the Lifedrawing course with Pernilla Persson) I needed to get back in practise before I start working on the next chapter.

Here's how I plan my page-layouts/write my script (both of which tend to happen more or less at the same time):

Daily sketchbook dump August 4th-10th

I got a bit lazy after returning from Gotland for the last time, and skimped on the sketching for a few days. I'm trying to do better now, though.

You ever have a character you just cannot draw properly, even though you know exactly what they look like? Bai Li Tai is that character for me. I just can't get him right. I'll have to practise more.

The lower half of this page are quick sketches of people at a café.

... You know, I didn't notice until I scanned it, but Haunt looks like he's going "So, tell me about your problems," *eyebrow-waggle*.
